Side by side
How the everyday jobs on a construction project compare.
| Excel / Google Sheets | Raidzo | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Already part of Office, or free with Google Sheets | Free for up to 5 users; ₹149 per user per month after that |
| Getting started | A blank sheet - you design every column and formula yourself | Ready-made boards, schedule, daily report and material tracking |
| On site, on a phone | Possible, but small cells and scrolling make it fiddly | Built for phones - add it to the home screen like an app |
| Many people at once | Copies get emailed and WhatsApped; which one is latest? | One live version - everyone sees the same thing |
| Daily progress reports | A different format from every engineer, if one arrives at all | Same format every day, an evening reminder, PDF and WhatsApp sharing |
| Delays and hindrances | Rarely written down until a claim needs them | Logged in the daily report and collected in a hindrance register |
| Materials | Running balances in formulas that break when a row is added | Balances update with every delivery, use and transfer; stock checks built in |
| Who changed what | Hard to tell who edited a cell, and when | A history on every work item, and every stock movement records who made it |
| Keeping people informed | Someone has to remember to call or message | Notifications when you're assigned, mentioned, or a request needs approval |
| Who can see and edit | Usually the whole file or nothing | Roles per project decide who can create, edit, approve or report |
| All projects at once | Copy-paste summaries from each site's sheet | A dashboard showing every project's reports, overdue work and lost time |
| Calculations and analysis | Unbeatable - any formula, any chart | Fixed reports; the hindrance register and material records export to CSV |
| Working offline | Works without internet | Needs an internet connection |
When Excel is enough
If one person runs one small job and keeps everything in their head, a spreadsheet is fine - it's free, flexible and familiar. Excel is also still the right tool for estimates, BOQs and rate analysis, where you need formulas and freedom more than a fixed workflow.
The trouble starts when several people need the same information: engineers on different sites, a store keeper, a purchase team and an owner who wants to know how every project is doing. That's when copies multiply, reports stop arriving and nobody trusts the numbers.
What changes when you move off spreadsheets
Daily reports that actually arrive
The same format from every site, every day - with a reminder to whoever hasn't filed one yet.
Everyone sees the same work
Tasks live on one board with an owner and a due date, not in five versions of a sheet.
Stock you can trust
Every delivery, use and transfer is recorded when it happens, with who did it.
No more chasing
People are notified when something needs them, so you spend less time on the phone.
Every project at a glance
The owner sees which sites need attention without asking for a single report.
Numbers back in Excel when you need them
Export the hindrance register and your material records to CSV for any analysis Raidzo doesn't do.
Moving from Excel to Raidzo
- 1Start with one project, not the whole company. Keep Excel for estimates and BOQs.
- 2Create the project and add the next few weeks of work on the board, with due dates and owners.
- 3Ask the site engineer to file the daily report in Raidzo instead of WhatsApp - that alone replaces most of the back-and-forth.
- 4Add your main materials and stores, and record deliveries as they arrive.
- 5Once the first site runs smoothly, bring in the next one.
Frequently asked questions
Is Excel good enough for construction project management?
For a single small job run by one person, often yes. It struggles once several people on different sites need the same up-to-date information - daily reports, stock levels and who is doing what.
Should I stop using Excel completely?
No. Excel remains the best tool for estimates, BOQs and analysis. Raidzo replaces the day-to-day running of the site: tasks, daily reports, delays and materials.
Can I get my data back into Excel?
Partly. The hindrance register and material records (stock and "Where did it go?") export to CSV, which opens in Excel or Google Sheets. Work items don't export yet.
Does Raidzo work without internet?
No - Raidzo needs an internet connection, though a mobile connection on site is enough. A daily report can be saved as a draft and finished later.
How much does Raidzo cost compared to Excel?
Raidzo is free for up to 5 users with every feature included, then ₹149 per user per month with no autopay.
